In one of the plotlines of The Corrections, a couple's bad marriage
is captured as paranoically bad in this way: Spying, that international
phenomenon
of massive distrust betwen Nation-States in Pynchon, is presented as the
husband's
suspicion and condemnation within this couple.........the husband's projection,
largely.
One thing Franzen is trying to do, at least, is take some of the largest
damaged-public-
sphere themes and show them in family, and personal situations......trying to
make the micro stand for
the macro......
One could write a review or essay: What if Jane Austen knew Pynchon, DeLiilo,
Burroughs?
