Gaddis influence on Against the Day?

This paragraph is by Erik Burns on the Gaddis listserve. He is talking about 
listening to
the audio version of JR.

Personally, I think it's great. I laughed out loud more than once over stupid 
jokes that I probably would just rush past when reading (like when the Aunts 
mention that they though General Roll was a military friend of Thomas') and I 
even caught something I hadn't noticed before, the phrase "against the day" (on 
page 7 of the book), which may be a Pynchon influencer?
