Fina - Venus- fine- connected to holy family in full name Josephina,
from Joan of Arc to group sex
I keep seeing a pattern emerging from the text about the connection
between sex and violence. Then there is the sale of simulated or real
sex and violence as a marketable commodity, a diversion from
boredom an attempt to awaken real desire. ART. Where does art end
and propaganda begin? Just re- reading the end of CH 6, and it's all
there in interesting patterns.
" a full scale rumble was on".
The rumble is being recorded by Shakespeare/Winsome/ Rogers and
Hammerstein : " a sound man was up in a nearby tree , dangling
microphones."
But rather than a lovers' suicide and the sad refrain with violins
of "there's a place for us". We find the aftermath of a a rumble and
a gang bang. Possibly with Josephina's consent..
The reader is made aware of the chance that Fina will be killed for ,
you know, the family honor.
"Angel might have been satisfied only with her life. Profane didn't
know..."
This is art as voyeurism and possibly a critique of Romeo and Juliet
and even tragedy itself.
This brings us to a provocative final paragraph
"...There was no more work under the street. What peace there had
been was over. He had to came back to the surface, the dream-street.
Soon he found a subway station, twenty minutes later he was downtown
looking for a cheap mattress."
This is like layers of a dream, you think you wake up but you are
sill dreaming- back to the surface, the dream-street.". Or being
dreamed . Of course as you are in the writers dream.
"There was no more work under the street. "
In talking about fighting alligators it has become reasonable to
assume from the many references throughout V. that P is talking
about a mythic battle in the collective unconscious. In considering
the connection between war and sex P is deliberately removing the
romance from Romeo and Juliet,
"what peace there had been was over"
What peace had there been? the only hint of peace was in the family.
The family was being destroyed by war and lies.
The rape of Fina has to do in my mind with the cult of virginity.
People worship a god- king, son of a virgin who came to bring peace
on earth and go forth to kill pillage. build cathedrals and rape
under the purity of that banner. Purity confers moral immunity and
repression only insures that the power of desire prevails violently .
There was a creepy guy in Full Metal Jacket who said it clear enough.
" I'm in it for the poon tang"
CH 7 starts with a mounted set of dentures. Are they V.'s dentures?
The virgin and Venus de and re-constructed? Are they what is left of
her, hanging on the western wall?
Eigenvalue mocks Stencil's attempt to find patterns, but is avidly
interested in his search.
