I prefer the Stencil chapters to the Profane chapters, in general. each Stencil chapter seems to have its own genre - this one strikes me as "comic opera."
Speaking of Profane chapters, we're supposed to be reading Chapter 8 for this and next week, under the guidance of Mike Bailey. Mike? MIKE! Are you there?
I'll observe that the last section of Chapter 8 seems to be the present-day Stencil prequel to the Stencilized chapter 9 that follows. He meets Mondaugen, who reminisces (though these memories don't appear in either chapter 8 or chapter 9) of his days working at Penemunde on the V's 1 and 2. A window into GR, but also an expansion of the V theme of this book. From antiquated clockwork and di-pole switch imagery to brutal death machines. We get an inkling of why inanimate objects are so alluring and so terrifying to Benny.
