All of TRP's books have this Iceland Spar/medical transparency overlay
aspect, laying the present over the past. "On The Road," written in
1951, is published in 1957. "Howl" came out [so to speak] in 1956.
Many of the folks that would be at the center of the great folk scare
wandered into the Village in the fifties, around the time Benny's
swatting the flies with a rolled up NYT. By 1963, a lot of these folks
were making their mark, but back then they were all scuffling. By
1963, "On The Road" was a best-selling, mass-market paperback. I
should know. My mother had one, dated 1963.
