Dylan is the quintessential unreliable narrator of his life. That movie, I'm Not
There, caught that (and more)..
Pynchon in his non-fiction believes in telling reality straight. He knows it
sets off the fictional truths of his vision. IMHO.

Was Dylan tongue in cheek when he said his favorite politician was
Goldwater? Was Pynchon tongue in cheek with self effacing remarks
about his work in the Slow Learner intro? They both create dissonance
in their fans with their self presentation.
