more religious references (it actually begins to seem like a pretty
good intro to ecclesiastical history)
Franciscan monastery, "Real Monasterio de Nuestra Senhora de la Otra Vez"
our lady of Otra Vez?
I remember from Spanish class hearing "Otra Vez" a lot! that, and
"repitan, por favor" - doesn't it mean something like "once again"?
our lady of One More Time?
Fr Manomuerta - p11 - "dead hand"
as in "the dead hand of tradition"?
Abbot Shekinah (a convert) - p10 - reference to the persecution and
forced conversion of the Jews?
"With regard to Saint Joseph of Copertino Rapture was accompanied by
Levitation" - which Wyatt sort-of recalls saying during his delirium
(p51)
-- this Saint Joseph apparently was convincing enough as a levitator
to cause the conversion of the Duke of Brunswick...

it's interesting how many slings and arrows he had to suffer at the
hands of the church hierarchy. You would think they would want to
milk that gift...
but just like the Flying Nun's Mother Superiour, they were always
hiding his light under a bushel
as to the Duke being a more reliable witness than the average bear...
well, maybe so, or maybe it was politically expedient for him to convert?
one wonders
-- anyway, at his moment of greatest distress, was the invocation of
Saint Joseph of Copertino one of the things that turned the tide?
