If you want, go to Google Book Search and find a searchable
edition of The Scarlet Letter and House of the Seven Gables:

search 'recognition'. 

You will find that Chap 3 of that Red Letter is entitled "The Recognition"
and that there are half a dozen (or more) uses, some as kinda
 thematic leitmotif once or twice....

And you will also find it used--and why not, it is common enough---
in that Gabled house with the 200-year old curse in the chapter 
entitled The Pyncheons of Today (and elsewhere), the last use
about someone recognizing himself in God's presence............
