"My own notion is that it is very unsportsmanlike to ever mention fraud. Accept
anything. Then explain it your way."

One might use this Fort quote as the principle by which Gaddis indicts History,
with all those self-justified horrors of history and lets all the fool talkers
in this novel indict themselves.

Everything can be 'rationalized'?....Morris is righter: very anti-foundational
is the book's [The Recognitions] 'epistemology' , yes?

Since I compared Gaddis to that massive, oftentimes thudding, overwhelming
'realist" Theodore Dreiser, I was fascinated to
learn Dreiser was his earliest important 'sponsor' and a lifelong friend (who
headed the Fortrean Society that Fort----in a very anti-authority,
anti-leader, anti-charisma Pynchonian way---refused to head)
