Yep, that would merit a thought-stumble.
The painting dates from 1939 - and is faulted as being of the
"Guernica" period and style....but not as arresting or politically
relevant. I'd like to see (once more) the actual canvas before I form
an opinion of it.
Picasso is not a painter to whom I can respond in a sophisticated way
- there's something about his paintings that have never worked for me,
as much as I admire the aesthetic bravura and the technique. Still,
there *is* something engagingly mysterious about this particular
painting ...some kind of dream-work going on.
I was also cross-referencing Wyatt's experience seeing this painting
at MOMA with Benny's jaunt to the National Gallery of Art with Flip
and Flop to see Dali's truly awful "Last Supper" (a bad _Yes_ album
cover if there ever was one). Some measure of the difference in tone
and intent when comparing TR with V.
