It's about a brother and sister who are at odds. The woman has locked 
herself away and is reading a pulpish sf novel, at least part of which is 
included. It's been over 30 years since I read it, and that's about all of 
the plot I remember, but I recall enjoying the book a lot. I was still a 
teenager.

"October Light" was a wonderful book. I remember very little except that it 
was basically about two old people, one of whom was reading a book about 
something totally different.  I must have read that in 1977 or so, shortly 
after it came out.  I relly should read "Grendel."
