I only first heard of Tom McCarthy last year when C came out and i got
it on my Kindle. That's just the letter C with no period. Stands for a
lot of things, as might be expected.
There's a fairly extended Wikipedia entry for T McC considering he
really isn't all that well known.
Apparently he' a terror in interviews.
Although he's mainly a writer he also does art in which he sees an
advantage over writing because it provides an active space, a space of
becoming active so that you can actually do the thing rather than just
represent it. (according to the Wikipedia) May have some relevance for
the McLuhan discussion.
TM's quite avant garde and continental in his literature tastes and
pronouncements. The Brits don't like him much for that.
