Old Cali-boy. San Fernando 1971 - 6.6 - a few miles from the
epicenter; I was nine at the time and from our home in the hills we
could see all the fires burning from the broken gas main.
This afternoon my wine sloshed around in my glass and I looked at my
lunch mates (two Irishmen) and burst out laughing. They'd never been
in a quake before and found it vaguely disturbing; it felt like old
home week to me.
I actually kind of like 'em....it's a sign the planet is still alive.
No earthquakes on a dead planet without the molten core and shifting
plates....
