I have a similar deep affection for libraries. Always a refuge and resource for reflection. My local library reflects the working class history of the town, lots of mysteries, thrillers, romance, lots of self help and bombast in the non-fiction. But there used to be solid 10 to 20 percent of  history, politics,  literature, and just diverse interesting books. It seems to have shrunk to maybe 3-5 %.
