This is a nabokov quote from The Real Life of Sebastian Knight and I was 
immediately reminded of those lines in CofL49 where
Mucho Maas talks of sharing another's soul, being another ....................

And Real Life of Sebastain Knight we are real sure TRP read 'cause main 
character is V. with a kind of double search ala v. going on. 
(couple -three scholars have made the connection well)
