as always a bit contrarian, might I suggest a soupcon of affection for
the vocal stylings of Mr Boone.  Just as in _Vineland_ I (though
perhaps alone in this) detect a note of fondness for the musical
background to the Puncutron: the likes of Mr Acker Bilk and so
forth...

one sees what one wants to see, but I had to ruin it all and look up
Pat Boone in Wikipedia...to borrow a phrase from Saxondale (great show
- that Coogan guy who wrote Hamlet II...) - "bit of a dick, isn't he?"
