You may read Wilson's brilliant interpretation of Melville on Mosby,
"The Scout toward Aldie" online. Notice that Wilson's description of
"Melville's familiar theme" as "the pursuit or persecution of one
being by amother, with an ambivilant relation between them, which
mingles repulsion and attraction but which binds them inescapably
together" is the also Pynchon's familiar theme after GR.
