I have long wanted to read Gassett's Revolt of the Masses
for lotsa plist-irrelevant reasons but since AtD's uses of
the word 'mass', related to the gravity metaphor and more,
I decided the time was ripe.
Some meanings of 'mass' in AtD especially, dovetail with
lotsa use of the concept mass in America---mass audience,
mass tastes, etc.....and I wondered if Gassett influenced
those usages...Book was very popular once.....60s not least.
I am not suggesting, yet, that this book or Gassett influenced
TRP. Just that certain writers and thnkers of deep humanism
or human-based spiritual beliefs share some vision.
There is "this time calls itself 'modern, " that is to say, final, definitive,
in whose presence all the rest is mere preterite"................
