Misc. and very tangential.
But I learn that the character Vice in medieval morality plays was
seen (usually) as a Trickster figure and was surrounded by double
comic characters----which might be akin to Bigfoot and doc's TV watching
buddy as well as the simple Stewardii doubles......
Just sayin', not sourcin'
(many works full of comic doubles, kinda universal not just medieval)

So, you don't think it profitable to scour IV for a conspiracy to rope
Doc in, a la the way Bigfoot getz him to do AP, to a broader hunt,
sublimating his passion for Shasta at least part-time into a search
for truth? Politico-sensorial-socio-logical insights blended into his
own righteous shamus trip and worthy of emulation - a-and, like Coy,
not really the worse for his time working for the Mahan?
One wouldt'n do it insensitively, one'd keep the pottery breathing...
