"Out Townness" should read "Our Townness" meaning
quotidian family values as extolled in the play Our Town

This chapter title I've just noticed is the case for that
belief that V should be referred to as V period. TRP
could have entitled this chapter V in Love............

Melanie's parents not even close to Ozzie & Harriet
or Out Townness,,,,,,,,mother off to tour and

her Papa---with a strong stereotypical villian mustache---
and she play a feeling up game....

at their estate Serre Chaudre which means "Hothouse",
I'm told....(like the decadent houseparty in Entropy?)
