More misc. TRP influences another new writer?

Tinkers, a first novel, by one Paul Harding, was the surprise Pulitzer Prize 
winner
of 2010. Despite Wm Gass's largely true remark: The Pulitzer aims directly for 
mediocrity
and seldom misses, it was next in an in-person reading group I am in............

You can read the beginning few pages, two short sections--pp.7-11 in a 
bookstore--an hallucinatory experience by a 

main character soon to die (we are told) ..............

And you tell me which beginning of which TRP masterpiece surely influenced 
it.....brought 

down to one man's personal hallucinations.............
