Pivotal moments? some kind of sick pun like that actually enhances my
appreciation of the book as a whole...

After such suffering, what redemption?

theories of history like the tiny maps issued to and by policy-makers,
Pynchon doing the great good favor of letting Stencil fill in all the
neglected filigrees of some of those pivotal moments, the humanly
perceived details of one whose heart is open to compassion; if, as
Robin suggests, Pynchon's head is in a very different place now, the
effort of V. is still part of what got him there!

ok, now I think I can read chapter 14. Having misread and skimmed it
in the past, I'm interested in getting at least a little bit of a
handle on it, like chapter 9.
