yes, "a journey ... on into a labyrinth" seems like the intended syntax

so, "on" as in "forth" -- "on the way" ---"traveling on" -- "go on" --
"come on down" --"come on in"
--- and, "on" instead of "forward" because of the labyrinthine nature
of the field of study, its twists and turns and the beast hidden in
the middle
conjuring Theseus with his journey into the labyrinth also

abandoning Harley Street and a lucrative practice and polite society
in favor of such a quest; is Pointsman's quest noble like Theseus's
quest?  who are the virgins he is trying to save from sacrifice?
is the Minotaur in this comparison to be thought of as Slothrop,
luring the girls (what about the girls?) into hazard from the bombs

or if he finds travel into the labyrinth to be delicious, is Pointsman
maybe more like the Minotaur himself?
