IPW Durham

Dear Pynchonian friends,

As many of you will be aware, the
next International Pynchon Week was scheduled to take place in Durham next year. Unfortunately, I’m afraid to
say that the event will have to be (temporarily) postponed. I’ve had two major funding bids knocked
back - these are dark times in UK
academia - and the university’s conference facilities are now fully booked. For
this reason, my initial plan is simply to move things on a year and aim for
2013 instead. This would nicely correspond with the 50th anniversary
of ‘V.’ and the 40th of ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’… So it seems like the
right time to stage such an event (we might even have a film version of ‘Inherent
Vice’ to talk about). I’m confident that I can get things up and running. Please
note, however, that if anyone wants to claim the next IPW for themselves then I
will happily pass the torch if there are good reasons for a change of plan. In
short – it’ll definitely be Durham
in summer 2013 unless an alternative appears in the next few months. I’ll be
applying for the next round of conference funding in October so the event will
go live at that stage if I don’t hear from people beforehand. I’m sorry to
disappoint… But please rest assured that I’m committed to making this happen if
I have your support. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any
questions, queries and ideas. The best way of contacting me is to use my work email: samuel.thomas at durham.ac.uk

Best wishes from Dixon
country,

Sam.
