i've changed the mistake you pointed out - and this is why it's crucial to
have native speakers reading the stuff i write, otherwise i'll never pick up
on things that sound strange and oh well...

as for having likeable characters, pointing out their faults in order to
make the narrative coherent and plausible, but never losing the reader's
sympathy for my heroes...  i'll leave that for better writers while i can't
have my own benny profane. (:
