Both these writers PROFOUNDLY influenced by Eliot. The Eliot who
could be oversimplified by saying            1) gave us the concept of the
modern world as a wasteland
                                                            2) wrote most
influentially about "the dissociation of sensibility" in the 17th Century.

                                                             Feelings from
intelligence.

Subject: The Recognitions and V.

Fragmentation and loss as the overarching meaning of the modern world. Both.
Belief that the world was once unified and that that was/is felt as a basic Good

Thing.

(Of course, other books, writers, too, I'm sure. Who?)
