At eight dollars a stem, "the natives gathered bananas in frenzied luxuriance, 
and planted thousands more".
Then, of course, with unfettered supply and demand forces, the bottom drops out 
of the market....all overripen
and rot.....           "the local banana market disappeared. it simply ceased to 
exist'...

how many times, Lord, how many markets?? Capitalism without a human floor.....

"Standard of living now so marvelously high that none of them could reach it."

Then there is 'the single bare bulb swung on its cord..."       Byron?
