Pynchon's Against the Day, at least, refutes this guy's overarching thesis...
He ignores America's Melville in his characterization of great American
writers...
And, it just seems too, too tendentious to me...some great literature comes from
getting one's own country in fiction perfectly......Austen, Proust, others?
Isn't that
the question?
I could elaborate but why?
