have to start with an out of sequence impression from the end of Chapter 2:
That Raymond Lully, and his "death years later" --
is there any possibility that "stoned in North Africa" is meant to
reverberate as it happened in my mind - lots of people in the 50s
getting stoned in North Africa?

(after all, chapter 2 and 5 have hashish smoke weaving around in the air)

------------

I am not steeped in this book, so I really like Mr Burns's posts
because I think he is.

Without that advantage, I intend to plod thru at a moderate yet copious pace.
Also hope to encourage some responses, maybe spark some controversy or
corrections (wait, that's a different book) without offending

------------

Chapter VI runs from page 202 through 221.

Page 202:
quote from Brothers K, Ilusha is apparently offended and seeks redress
by becoming rich (since that is a source of power, as his father
confirms) - and it's interesting that he immediately sees the military
as a road to wealth. Anyway, he seems to want to get even for
something. // Gaddis was a Dostoevski fiend, right? So this Ilusha
gets beat up at school, and there's a lot of drunkenness. I'll bet
Otto got beaten up at school...

anybody got any real idea about this quote?
