Perhaps, but Pynchon's interest in the role of the story teller, the
writer, the author, the spinner of yarns, the outcast cast away, the
heretical member of the clan who may be prone to hyperbole or may be
talling the truth slant or recounting with a bad memory or broken
rembrancer predates his daddyhood. Cherrycoke doesn't strike me as a
father so much as a mad nuncle.
