perhaps an interesting tidbit related to John Buchan. An early book is called
"Prester John", an adventure story about a mythical person of the 12th Century \
who had vast territorial holdings therefore wealth and power........
"prester john" was used as an examble in some---one?---philosophy classes I took to
explore the meanings of an unreal person who was thought to have existed.....
(for example, what is true or false and how---of an unreal but realistic 'person'. And worse)
Googling Google Books about him I see one book deals with "John Buchan and The Yellow Book",
yellow (and yellow book) connections also in ATD (we think).............
There seems to have been one volume of 4 Hannay mysteries republished in 1990...perhaps the
editors considered them the best?
Besides Greenmantle, which I know many considered perhaps the best, it seems the aforementioned
Prester John--but not a Hannay mystery and Mr. Standfast among others are well-liked........

ok, he's in the preface to Slow Learner, and everybody's seen the 39 Steps
I was thinking of looking at some of his books.
Pynchon said some are even better than 39 Steps.
The guy was governor general of Canada! I didn't know that.
