I'm reading Andrei Codrescu's reworking of the1001 Arabian nights, Whatever Gets You Through the Night. It really is a delightful read with a treasury of em bed ed post'modern commentary. Sexy, funny, with a hidden dagger and the soul stirring energy of a poetic tender hearted wise-ass invading the deep mythos. This is the first non-Pynchon fiction that I have read in years that I think would be widely enjoyed by the list as a group read. Hoping someone will try it and render a second opinion. Is there a doctor in the house?

Tom Robbins said, Like a supercomputer concealed inside an exotic aphrodisiac fruit, Codrescu's retelling of this ancient bawdy wonderwork ends up by surprisingly calculating the future of our race.

OK , Robbins probably had smoked some strong stuff before writing that, and I am only a third in, but this is indeed some good shit.
