Every day the equivalent of an entire year’s GDP passes through the

trades in stocks and bonds, mortgages and packaged bank loans, forward
purchase and repurchase contracts.

----   A quarter of a percent tax on that (and it's been done in the
past) - how could they possibly object to such a minuscule
contribution to the government which protects their assets, maintains
their infrastructure, and essentially makes their operation possible
in many, many ways?
