An opera adaptation of "Solaris" by Detlev Glanert will be put on stage
next year:

Just recently I heard Glanert's opera version of Hans Henny Jahnn's "Das
Holzschiff" (The Ship)
which I liked a lot in its impressionistic drive. The sea motives
reminded me of Debussy.

Detlev Glanert, who studied four years under Henze, also composed a work
inspired by the
whole "Fluss ohne Ufer" (Shoreless River) and is, thus, among the very
few to realize that
Hans Henny Jahnn was, together with Gottfried Benn and Thomas Mann, the
crucial German
writer of the 20th century. As I hope, the music will bring people to
read the novels and plays.

But we were talking about adaptations of SciFi novels, so here comes
something from VALIS:

Is there a P-lister who saw the opera on stage?
