Carr is often characterized as muse to the Beats, but he was more than
that. Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg were acolytes, captivated by
Carr’s profane rants about bourgeois culture and the path to
transcendence through pure creative expression — his “New Vision,”
after “A Vision” by Yeats.
