Was "purple mountains' majesty"

I saw some art over the weekend. One picture was "White Top Mountain,VT" by
Marsden Hartley which was largely a brown+ purple-predominating composition
of mountain under the small white top....lovely...
 
I saw another by an artist I've already forgotten the name of who did a small metallic-like globe
object with a sentence encircling it which read. "the first thought of the machine will be of functionality"
and, not least,
 
a Maya Lin exhibit full of waveforms and natural earth curves and water and topologies. An exhibit
as if to say No to linearlity and yes to nature and its curves...
