Danilo's gun becomes a splint/crutch when he can't walk. Nice, natural 'sword into
plowshares' kind of metaphor or

too heavy-handed? Too Groan-producing?

Vote early and often.

I stumbled across this just after entering the Cyprian-Danilo 'rebirth' section of AtD...
We know TRP was influenced by Rilke; we know 'inner life' matters and is an overt theme in much of his fiction.

"To sit still and pray seems selfish and unheroic, but it may be the wisest course." Auden on Rilke on politics http://j.mp/J7IdM3

The discussion is now on.
