Those two are totally different animals. You sort of have to take Will
seriously, if you ever should read him, kind of like you have to Friedman
(foreign policy-wise the two are basically identical), they're specific
beasts. The Sociologist, he simply makes grotesque generalizations about
things, divides them into two groups, and labels one Republican-trending
and one Democrat-trending. That's his job at the Times, that's what they
pay him to do so he does it. I have no doubt he was doing it before the
Times, but he also does it for the Times, which is when people started
paying him any attention.
