And just now I get this:

—Guy Davenport, in a letter to James Laughlin

Subject: Back to AtD..and then we have a beautiful goatherd song

Some fine, fine lyricism---or overwriting?:
pp. 945--946   "a Phyrigian melody...unmediated and immune to Time."

What we call Art?

"an undertaking at least as metaphysical as song"---who else sez this, maybe Nietzsche?---
loss.....Orpheus to Euridyce in Hell...across watercourses, limestone.......
"Time personified as a Demiurge and servant of Death"......

See Eliot at least. Four Quartets at least loaded with Time capped and reflected on.

yea, art.....TRPs?....where he hoped it came from?.....or how?

Or the folk art of lost communities?
