further excavations yielded this - again, not a veritable source but at

seems like they just ran out of money (from the Nobel). why? didn't they 
invest wisely?  what do people do with Nobel money, apart from spending 
it on candy, hookers and blackjack, or giving out to charity?
although it does not explain why the PEN/Faulkner looks like, well, 
disowning their past. funny business, literary feuds
