but they have taken from you too, and some of what they have taken
from you, your identity information, where you are, who with, what you
buy, how much you have, where you reside, work, play, when you go on
vacation, what brands you buy, so on, will be sold to others who will
call you and spam you and market products to you, or avoid doing
business with you, even if the law sez they can not refuse to do
business with you, and the snake slithers on.  an insidious snake, not
life threatening, only a constrictor of privacy, an enemy of
democracy, but not a death squad. and, the snake is not the author of
evil only; the snake has merit and can also make life better, can even
stretch out its length in democratic movements. yes, like all
technics, and the snake is a machine in the garden, the snake is good
and evil. and, since we do not live in eden or even in disney, we are
mortal and need not fear the loss of our innocence or eternity. so the
snake will not make us more mortal, for we are mortal, and will not
kill us, but to assume that what does not kill us makes us stronger is
foolish. not when what does, and does with powerful technic, is a
multi-national corporation, a snake sucking its own tail and
encircling the bonds of our common carbon, our humanity.

when i go to the beach, young men approach my car, they want to do
business with me, just watch my car and keep it safe. they do not
threaten me or want to kill me, but others do, and the crime is so bad
that people never feel safe, in the same way that folks in the usa do,
 and that is why so many will give these young men a small fee to
watch a car.  I do not dobusiness with these young hustlers. I am,
after all, a gringo, and I can not adapt, not entirely, to the culture
here. I take my chances; they may smash my car to encourage me to buy
their services next time, or they may stick adds in my wiperblades,
but they do not take from me as the snake, the threat is all around,
but it does not suck its own tail. if they want to hard time hustle,
they will get out of the car watching business and do some trafficking
in drugs and murder.

i can argue with the car watch hustlers, haggle with the beer man, tip
or not, but the snake is a closed system and as the dragline sez to
cool hand luke, you messin wit da man with no eyes.
