It was written long before Friedman because a columnist and the hack he is
today. It's mostly reportage w/some opinion, and he's definitely more on the
Israeli side of things. He gives a pretty good historical overview of the
region. It is, however, about 20 years out of date. I can't think of
anything more recent that isn't tendentious.
