In that case, just watch Fox News, or Al Jazeera, depending on which side yr prejudice falls on.

But what if I want to stay curled comfortably up in my prejudice?

Try Benny Morris' 'Righteous Victims'. It's not brief, but it's pretty definitive. He's one of the Israeli "new historians" who challenged a lot of the standard Zionist and Palestinian nationalist views of the conflict. He also wrote a book about 1947/1948.
For current news, you can read Commentary magazine and Haaretz. The former is the intelligent neoconservative and Zionist mag in America and the latter is a leftwing Israeli newspaper that's very 'anti-occupation'. They're good to read against one another. The Forward also has good coverage. It's a leftwing Yiddish paper with an English edition.
I don't know if anyone has written this, but I would love to read a comparative history of Israel and Pakistan. On paper their histories are remarkably similar - founded at almost the same time, one Islamic the other Jewish, large displacement of people at founding, both have nuclear weapons and prolonged conflict/tension with neighbors, both receive tons of $ from America, et cetera et cetera...
all the best,
Don
