Thematics of AtD in other books

I second. I think I remember that there might be a Ragtime allusion in AtD? Yes, why is he not talked of more even in the lit culture? 

I also think Douglas Coupland is worth it, an interesting fictioneer who is in touch with his time.

But I haven't read much recent work of either. 

These posts always remind me how unread I am--in writers I WANT/have wanted to know better. 
And I'm still almost dead and older all the time.
