There is a fascinating story in the radiolab archives, an episode called the new normal or new baboon. (http://www.radiolab.org/2009/oct/19/new-baboon/) . The gist is that all the alpha males in a troop of aggressive warlike baboons died from infected food and the females became the dominant cultural force in the troop. They have remained peaceful and nonaggressive for 20 years since this incident. 

so if nature comes up with a virus that takes out alpha males we could end up with a lot more affectionate grooming and not much in the area of shooting bombing and skyscrapers.
