AtD, the ranges, that light

in Part the First, Pynchon gives us a vision of the loss of the ranges,
the natural world that is/was America. (de Tocqueville starts off his famous
book with an incredible presentation of the natural resources, the natural beauty,
of America.)

..circus sky [speaking of circus as we were. love this]...corrupted prairie...
prairie again described negatively.....more, more...........

All against the whitewashed Fair of papier-mache. etc...............

and the move to electric then electromagnetic light....................
