Runaway women in Pynchon

Like Slothrop and their model, Dorothy, she runs away from and toward Home
at the same time; a paradox of all American quest narratatives. Of course,
she, like Dorothy, had to find out for herself because that is who she is
on a quest to find. Oedipa's waste is never, as in the tragic models,
revealed, and so she must live with us, it's the only return permitted. You
can never go home again in Pynchon, you can only fly toward it (Grace).
