NP: _The Proud Tower_ (Barbara W. Tuchman)

Pynchon uses the Tower metaphor throughout his work......for him, for Murakami it
seems to go back even furthur to Frazer and Eliade at least. 
Yeats famously used it too...
 
I went thru one of my obsessive periods posting stuff about it here, all in the
eternal archives if you want to check out some associations......

Wow! Thanks for all the quick feedback on this! I've requested it from the library 

_The Guns of August_ sounds interesting, too.

Mark mentioned the connections with TRP. When I heard about this, I did immediately think that it might resonate well with his works. 

All speculation, of course, since I haven't read it, yet.

I wondered if it might connect with Jung's Tower, too, which features in 1Q84.

I've been listening to 1Q84. It's always different to listen to a book than it is to read it, but in this case I imagine that it is a strikingly different experience since there is a different reader for each chapter's "host" (or whatever the right word would be).
