The more I began to think about it the more I realized that it exceded my technical know-how. Any ideas? Is there some software available that allows you to make a map, so to speak? (Obviously it would have to be a map from the fin de siecle period.) The novel has so much movement in it that it would be interesting to see characters tracked through space and time (the old type, not this quantum s/t).

One interesting thing to do is to plug AtD place names into Google Maps.  As you zoom in you get a pretty close up of how  things look today. Just plugged in Kashgar, where Kit I believe finds Auberon Halfcourt.  Google hasn't actually run a Googlemobile through all the streets, as in many other cities of the world, but you do see the buildings from a low altitude. Also,  with the places-nearby feature, you get many excellent pictures of local structures, many looking  like they might have been there in Kit's day.
