I dunno, dude. The most zealous atheists I can think of are the usual suspects, The Four Horsemen (RIP Hitch). The most irritating thing they ever did was, you know, talk. Whereas the most zealous religious... well, there's no need to even say any more. 

I realize some really bad folks have been atheist in name – Stalin etc. – but their atheism seems to be a part of something else which invariably ends up as at least quasi-religious. E.g. Stalinism, with its infallible leader and its holy books.

Seriously, the most irritating atheist will run for office and... what? Whereas the most irritating religionist will run for office and POW Sarah fucking Palin.
